Bird of Prey Handling Experiences in Surrey
Family-run falconry in Surrey! Birds of prey and falconry is a way of life for our family and our mission is to share our passion for falconry and birds of prey, through displays, educational events and experience days which take place on a private farm near Dorking.
We’re offering a trio of falconry sessions in Surrey, starting with the ‘Rangle’ a one-hour taster, then the ‘Gauntlet’ half day and finally the ‘Yarak’ full-day experience.
‘Rangle’ – £38pp
The ‘Rangle’ (which refers to the teeny stones fed to birds of prey to aid digestion) is perfect for all ages from 5 upwards, as it gives you an insight into the world of birds, with plenty of time to meet and fly several species too within your one-hour session.
Our ‘Rangle’ bird of prey experiences are 60 minutes and include handling and flying of a selection of birds. There will be plenty of opportunities for photographs, and you can choose between an owl experience or a falconry experience. It is the perfect experience for children or as a taster session. Spectators are £5pp and you can bring up to two per booking.
Half Day ‘Gauntlet’ – £79pp
Our ‘Gauntlet’ falconry experiences are two to two and a half hours and are our most popular range. The word ‘Gauntlet’, of course, referring to the gloves that falconers wear to handle the birds when they land on their hand. But did you know there are usually different lengths for different birds? A falcon glove tends to cover the hand and the wrist, whilst hawking gloves are usually longer. And whilst it is obviously there to protect you from those beaks and claws, it also serves as a perch.
Handle and fly a selection of birds of prey* and learn about them and their natural behaviours and habitats under the direction of our experienced falconers.
Choose from a Bird of Prey Experience, an Owl Experience, or the Original Walk on the Wild Side. They are perfect for all bird of prey or owl lovers.
Spectators must be pre-booked and are £10pp (£20pp for the Original Walk on the Wild Side) and you can bring up to two per booking.
* for the Original Walk on the Wild Side, we generally use one species of hawk.
Full Day ‘Yarak’ – £139pp
A bird ‘in yarak’ means they are in peak condition both physically and mentally, making it a formidable hunter. The day gives you the most in-depth look at the work of a falconer on a day to day basis.
Our ‘Yarak’ falconry experiences are a full day of hands-on and up-close demonstrations from the professionals, with a break for a light lunch. Spectators must be pre-booked and are £20pp (Monday to Saturday bookings) and £30pp for Sunday bookings. You can bring up to two per booking.
